As a form of community service and an effort to support the strengthening of the halal industry ecosystem, the Independent Learning Campus (MBKM) Thematic Community Service Program (KKN-T) students of Mesjid Village, UIN Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris (UINSI) Samarinda held a Halal Certification Socialization on Sunday, September 13, 2026.

The event, which took place at the Ar-Rahim Mosque, RT 08, Mesjid Village, carried the theme “Halal as the New Standard: Increasing the Selling Value and Competitiveness of Local Products.” The event was moderated by Dhiya Ulhaq (KKN Student) and featured the main speaker, Prof. Dr. Hj. Darmawati, M.Hum., who also serves as Deputy Dean I of the Faculty of Economics and Business, UINSI Samarinda.

This agenda was also attended by Rudi Hartono, S.Sos. as the Head of Mesjid Village. In his remarks, he expressed high appreciation for the strategic work program of the KKN-T MBKM FEBI UINSI KELURAHAN MASJID students. He emphasized that this educational program has a very significant academic and practical urgency in accelerating the community’s halal certification literacy. According to him, the synergy between universities and the village-level government is a transformative capital in assisting local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to be able to meet product halal legality standards, thus having a direct impact on strengthening the sustainable economy.

In her presentation, Prof. Dr. Hj. Darmawati, M.Hum., emphasized the importance of halal certification for local MSMEs. She stated that in a country with a large Muslim population like Indonesia, ensuring halal products is no longer simply a matter of fulfilling Islamic law but has become a standard for quality, safety, and economic competitiveness.

“Halal certification isn’t just about labeling, but rather a comprehensive halal assurance system, from raw material selection and processing to delivery, all the way to the consumer. Having a halal certificate provides legal certainty, consumer protection, and increases public trust, which in turn expands the market for MSME products, ” explained Prof. Darmawati.

In addition to explaining the benefits of halal certification, the participants who attended, especially local residents and MSMEs, were also provided with material regarding the Legal Basis for Halal Product Assurance: Regulations underlying JPH, The Role of Related Institutions: Duties and authorities of the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH), Halal Inspection Institution (LPH), and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Scope of Mandatory Halal Products: Starting from food, beverages, cosmetics, to certain consumer goods and Registration Flow & Procedures: Document requirements to the mechanism for submitting halal certification through the BPJPH SIHALAL system.

Through this outreach program, it is hoped that MSMEs in the Mesjid sub-district will be further encouraged to immediately apply for halal certification for their products. This concrete step by the UINSI FEBI MBKM KKN-T students is also expected to have a sustainable impact on building a Sharia-based and highly competitive community economy.
